On February 24th, the Volkswagen Group announced the opening of a new generation of Touran MPV. The new car adopts advanced technology such as LED lights. The new Touran is a third-generation model, and the second generation, which is currently on sale in August 2010, shares a large number of parts with the first-generation models. The second generation of Touran is based on the PQ35 platform, and is the same blueprint as Golf 6, Skoda Octavia 2. The third generation of new Touran will use the MQB modular engine transverse platform, the same as Golf 7. According to official data from the public, the MQB platform helped New Touran lose 62 kilograms.
Foreign media said that the new Touran will be listed in Europe in September 2015, and will be put into production at Shanghai Volkswagen in China at the end of the year.
Volkswagen said that the new Touran's cargo hold volume is as high as 1,040 liters, and 47 storage rooms can be well adapted to daily storage needs. The car can be equipped with Pure Air three-zone automatic air conditioner with anti-allergen filtering to keep the air inside the car fresh and clean.
In terms of powertrain, there are three TSI versions of gasoline engines with 110 hp, 150 hp and 180 hp respectively; three TDI diesel engines have 110 hp, 150 hp and 190 hp. The new engine fuel economy is 19% higher than the previous generation. Foreign media even revealed that a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and plug-in hybrid version that burns compressed natural gas will also be available, with fuel consumption as low as 100 liters per liter. All models feature start-stop technology and a brake energy recovery system.
The car will also use a rearview camera and parking aid, as well as radar and camera scanning security systems, as well as LED headlights.
In terms of price, the foreign media speculated that the price of the car in the German market is not much different from the price of the second-generation Touran's 23,250 euros.
