A few days ago, Japan’s Mitsui Shipbuilding received an order from Imabari Shipbuilding to supply four gas-powered engines. Mitsui Shipbuilding said the two-stroke ME-GI engines will be used in two LNG carriers. The two new ships are currently being built by Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan, and the shipowner is the Spanish transporter Empresa Naviera Elcano SA.
Mitsui Shipbuilding also added that the company also received another order to supply the world's first engine to burn ethane. The ethane-burning engine will be used to equip three liquefied ethane gas carriers, the owner of which is Hartmann Reederei, Germany. The shipyard is built for China Pacific Shipbuilding and is expected to be delivered in 2015 and 2016.
